This is how a 500 Qatari Riyal (QAR) note looks like..

We know when you have to deal with any foreign currency, it is challenging to get used to it. So we thought we should explain a few things about Qatari Riyal..

How much is 1 QAR?

As of today 1QAR = 0.27 USD =19.57 INR

So 500 QAR = 137.30 USD = 9787 INR

500 QAR the highest Banknote in Qatar.

Different denominations in Qatar-  If you are exchanging your money at airport or withdrawing at an ATM you will get notes of 1, 5, 50, 100 and 500 QAR.

Qatar has coins as well, for smaller denominations. But in most places you will have a round figure value or the person accepting your money will take a round figure..

If you are a budget Traveller like us, then with 500 QAR you can easily spend 2-3 days in Qatar, specifically Doha.

You can have lunch/dinner for 30 QAR per meal at any inexpensive restaurants. We always try and visit MacDonald 1st in any country to have our meal. It gives us an indication how costly would be that country for food.

Uber is very easily available in Doha with a base price of 8 QAR. It will be around 20-25 QAR if you are travelling from Westbay to Souq Waqif in normal traffic..

Metro is very cheap in Doha. It’s not fully operational yet, but work is going on rapidly. Check out the metro in Doha to save some money and time during your travel. Transport is where we spent most of our money in Doha as it is not very easy to walk around in the heat (even at night).

Lastly, the most important thing is that you don’t get free drinking water in Doha. We hadn’t checked if the tap water is drinkable, but we stuck to buying water bottles from the supermarket. You will need plenty of water in a hot country like Qatar and we suggest to always keep a bottle with you. Restaurants and smaller shops do charge a bit more for the same bottle.

Money Tip- Sometimes it is difficult to break a 500 QAR, as many of the basic things like water, taxis or simple snack/tea would not be more than 10 QAR.
