The view of Ha Long bay from Ti Top Peak is one the most spectacular things we have ever seen in our lives.
And trust us when we say this that the pictures don’t do justice to the magnificence of this Unesco World Heritage site.
However, there is a small price to pay for the view- You will have to climb around 400 steps to get to the top of this island!
The climb is a bit difficult, especially for unfit people like us 😁. And it’s not just the steps that you have to worry about, you also have to deal with the heat and humidity. We were sweating like pigs all the way to the top and while climbing down.
Once you conquer this, you witness something PRICELESS..
When we were struggling to go up, a guy on his way down told something which really stuck with us. He said “Just a few more steps my friend, Just keep going. It’s God’s Cocktail out there”.
And God’s Cocktail it was!!
On the Ha Long Bay cruise, Ti Top Island is the last stop for the day. So you reach the island around 3.30 – 4pm. Here you have two activities to do- Swim and enjoy on the beach or Hike to the top.
If you have a two or three day cruise in Ha Long Bay, you may have enough time to do both the activities (just make sure you hike to the top first and then spend your time on the beach).
But if you are on a One-Day cruise like us, the tour guide will give you 30-45mins for this stop and you have to opt for one activity.
We would definitely definitely recommend to go for the hike, it’s so worth the effort.
Although we don’t think your cruise will leave without you, but it feels a bit embarrassing to return late to the cruise when 20 or more people are waiting for you ….
A word of caution- If you are planning for a bath or a swim in the beach, beware of jellyfishes. There have been a few cases of jellyfish sting on Ti Top. Tour guides will inform you about this and tell you about a quick cure if you are stung by a jellyfish (but you know that already, don’t you 😉 ).
